MURMURLINE connects you with a random stranger for a text conversation. There's no sign-up, no identity check, and no moderation of what people say to each other beyond what's described here. By using the site, you agree to these terms.

Read this part. You will be matched with a real stranger whose identity, age, and intentions we cannot verify. Do not share anything you wouldn't want a stranger to have. If something feels wrong, close the tab — that ends the connection immediately and nothing is saved.

Who can use this

You must be at least 18 years old to use MURMURLINE. By using the service you're confirming that you are.

What you agree not to do

Use the service to harass, threaten, exploit, or endanger anyone, including minors.
Share or solicit child sexual abuse material, or engage in any sexual conversation with someone you know or suspect is a minor.
Automate connections — bots, scripts, or scraping the matchmaking system. (We actively detect and block this.)
Use the service for anything illegal under the laws that apply to you.
Impersonate another person, or misrepresent your age, gender, or identity in a way intended to deceive or harm.
Attempt to de-anonymize, track, or identify other users.

No content review, automated pattern-based moderation

Messages are end-to-end encrypted specifically so that we cannot read them — which also means we cannot review or filter conversations in real time. What we do instead: your own browser checks your outgoing messages against a set of patterns before sending. Matches are blocked and flagged against your connection. Flags escalate: enough of them within an hour puts your connection in a temporary timeout — 5 minutes the first time, 30 minutes the second, 24 hours for further repeats. There's no permanent, indefinite block — every timeout has a fixed, visible expiry. If your partner sends something matching the most severe patterns, the chat auto-ends and they're automatically reported — you don't have to do anything. Less severe matches (harassment, unwanted solicitation, off-platform redirects, repeated spam) are blocked on your side and nudge you toward the Report button on theirs. None of this involves us reading message content — it happens entirely in your browser, and only a "this happened" signal (never the text) ever reaches our server. You can also use "Report" yourself any time. If you encounter illegal content or conduct, report it to local law enforcement where appropriate.

No warranty

The service is provided "as is," with no guarantee it will be available, uninterrupted, error-free, or that any particular person you're matched with is who or what they claim to be. We make no representations about the identity, age, intentions, or conduct of any other user.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, MURMURLINE and its operator are not liable for any harm, loss, or damage arising from your use of the service or your interactions with other users — including anything another user says or does. You use the service, and interact with strangers through it, entirely at your own risk.

Termination

We can block, rate-limit, or deny access to the service for any connection at any time, without notice, particularly to enforce these terms or defend against abuse. Since there are no accounts, "termination" simply means we stop accepting connections from a given source.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the service changes. Continuing to use MURMURLINE after an update means you accept the revised terms. Check back here periodically.
